Who is in Charge: Big or Small

Land of opportunity, free, liberty and justice…  It seems every day there is a little less Freedom, Less Liberty and Less Justice.  I understand that some of you don’t want to work hard and still get what you want and complain about not getting it.  But, many of you do work hard and try to complete all the paperwork, waiting and creating your dream.  I know, where am I going with this?

How is it that the small farms are scrutinized with greater diligence than they require or deserve.  Large CAFO’s regulations should be (as small operations) determined by size and inherent risks within the facility and surrounding communities.  Where large facilities create their own set of high risk factors.  Ex: crowded unnaturally ventilated areas where animals are walking and breathing their own excrement. And, because they breathe the crap in, they have to have antibiotics to heal the damage it does to their nostrils and throat!

Transportation, inspection fees at USDA facilities for the small farmer are large part of the high cost of local raised animal foods.

How is it that the public is served?  There are greater restrictions and requirements on organic and naturally home grown animal and plant food products.  Naturally processed or organic foods are well documented to be greater for the overall nutrition and health of the human being.  And the promotion of the non-organics and processed foods is less identified, less restricted and better known for their artificial, nutrient deficient ingredients and fillers?

One sad side effect of history is that over time, people forget, the young are not taught or spoken to about the past, and they or even the older that know better, are influenced to do what is not in the best interest of the ones they care about the most.  For money sometimes (most of the time, most of the time).  And people in position of authority are weak, and or unwilling to truly understand the consequences of the incremental, spreading and debilitating decisions they are reinforcing.

Fortunately for the organic, natural and home grown, or co-op farmers that are growing larger and larger in the past few years.  Yet, unfortunately (for us) and it is having a negative impact on the big food producers. With the big business relationships and influence they have with OUR government, the USDA, FDA… are influencing and the local governments to bend, reinterpret local and state ordinance and laws to pressure, and even seize and destroy equipment and the animals.

Please if you care, support your communities, stand behind or alongside your neighbors when you see or hear about what you know in your heart and common sense is just not Right!  Together we are BIG and they are small. Be together, wherever you are.

Raised on a 20 acre farm with all the animals in rural Indiana. I picked up rocks out of farm field before planting season, cooked in a pancake house for a couple years, worked in a factory, joined the Navy, back to the factory then College. I took for granted the simple natural (and unnatural) foods we grew that we raised, and the snacks and cereals we bought. I had a hard working mother I love, even now that she is gone, and a there but not there father. It went by so fast. I sincerely believe we can reintroduce the local farms that sustain and bring together communities. I am looking for sincere individuals to assist me with pursuing my passion to bring a business model to community, prove concept and make it work. Then reeducate the generations.
